About the Sunflower 2 block
Sunflowers have inspired quiltmakers for generations, but “Sunflower” refers to a family of designs rather than one single standardized quilt block. Floral quilt patterns became especially prominent during the early twentieth-century quilt revival; designer Marie Webster’s influential Sunflower quilt was published in the January 1912 issue of Ladies’ Home Journal, and other sunflower patterns followed from commercial pattern makers.
Today the motif appears in both appliqué and geometric pieced designs, making it a natural fit for bold barn quilts.

Tips for painting a Sunflower 2 barn quilt
Prime both sides of your board and seal the edges before painting to keep moisture out.
Lay out the pattern in pencil first using a grid — every shape lines up on a regular fraction of the board.
Paint the lightest color first, then work toward the darkest so any drips can be covered.
Use painter's tape along straight edges and burnish it down with a credit card to prevent bleed-through.
