About the 8-point Star block
The eight-pointed star is less a single quilt pattern than a broad family of star designs that has appeared in American quilts in many forms. The National Park Service describes stars as one of the most common quilt motifs and the eight-pointed star as one of the simplest and most popular star forms used by nineteenth-century quiltmakers.
Some versions use one large radiating star while others repeat smaller stars across the quilt, leaving generations of makers plenty of room to reinterpret the same striking geometry.
